Girl by Moonlight takes the rules of the highly-acclaimed Blades in the Dark and tunes them to create a unique play experience representing the breadth of the magical girl genre. Capture the thrill of transcending into your alter-ego and savor the anguish of falling into the eclipse of self-destruction and inner turmoil.

Girl by Moonlight uses ‘magical girl’ as shorthand. You play people whose identities put them at the margins: the mysterious Enigma, the vigilant Guardian, the troubled Outsider, and more! The game draws inspiration from many sources and reinterprets the classic touchstones of the genre to create an allegory for self-discovery and queer identity.

Girl by Moonlight offers four Series Playsets to cover a variety of magical girl stories:

• At the Brink of the Abyss focuses on heroic magical girls who fight to reclaim a corrupted world. It’s inspired by Sailor Moon and Steven Universe.

• Beneath a Rotting Sky deals with tragedy and betrayal where magical girls are doomed to an inevitable fate. It’s inspired by Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

• On a Sea of Stars features mecha pilots struggling against extinction at the hands of the Leviathans. It’s inspired by Diebuster and The Vision of Escaflowne.

• In A Maze of Dreams draws on both Serial Experiments Lain and Paprika. Its central themes are desire, mass culture, and ideas developing a life of their own.
